I look forward to another exciting school year. I have been a teacher with the Miami-Dade County Public School system since March, 1990, and Lamar Louise Curry Middle School has been my home for the past sixteen years.  I welcome 2021-2022 with high expectations for another successful school year.   I believe that with my drive and determination,  parental support and stamina, and student ambition and achievement, we can accomplish anything.

I have a personal goal to guide learning, expectations, and outcomes for meeting the standards set forth by the school, the district, and the state.  To accomplish this, I have designed instructional lessons to meet the learning needs of students while applying a challenging curriculum and utilizing materials and technological resources available in collaboration with other teachers in the Language Arts department.  I plan engaging opportunities where students interact with ideas, materials, peers and teachers within each unit of study, as well as designing experiences where students take responsibility for their own learning ~ especially with the implementation of our new Collections textbook, Promethean Library, Discovery Education, NBC Learn, i-Ready, Edmodo, Vocabulary.com, Newsela, Quill, Read Theory, etc., in our efforts to meeting the goals of the new Florida B.E.S.T. Standards!

Lets begin this journey embarking on our learning adventure!

"The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows."

CLASS THEME...

In the original novel Around the World in 80 Days, by Jules Verne, an Englishman wagered that he could circle the world in 80 days.  The plot thickens as he engages in various mishaps along the way.  The plot in my theme is that in the 180 days of school, students will engage in numerous learning adventures, with mishaps along the way, but will be successful by the end of the school year.  I have always believed that the best way to learn is to travel.  Whether traveling from country to country or state to state, only through reading can we immerse ourselves in venturing to places we only dream about.  Only through reading can we experience the languge, the people, and the culture of places so full of history.

CLASS ADVENTURES...

Students are provided various opportunities in class to read for pleasure.  During the 'Just Drop Everything and Read', a challenge through the Language Arts Department, teachers decorated doors to display the Miami-Dade County Public Schools initiative for reading.
